The data in this report is provided directly by the SERMA teams (Avoriaz Mountain Domain). The weather update is done every morning, before 8 a.m., at the central opening.

For snow depth measurements, SERMA uses two measurement points:

• At 1,800 m, on the ski area, in the Lac-Intrêts departure zone, sheltered from the wind and in a naturally snow-covered area.
• At 2,200 m, on the ski area, in the Lac-Intrêts arrival zone, in the Creux de la Neige sector, also protected.

These two locations were determined in consultation with Météo France, away from skier traffic, due to their representativeness of snow conditions at their respective altitudes and their reduced exposure to wind, which could skew the measurements.

The measurements take into account the cumulative snow depth. This means it reflects the thickness of the natural snowpack, accounting for snowfall, as well as snow compaction and intermediate melting. This method is similar to those used in other ski resorts.

Snow depth readings are carried out by patrollers qualified in snow science (nivology) and meteorology, after completing a one-week training with specialists from the Météo Chamonix center. They do not simply measure snow depth, but are also responsible for:

• Evaluating the structure and quality of the snowpack.
• Communicating this information for the assessment of avalanche risk published by Météo France.
• Reporting any avalanches observed within the ski area.
• Providing information on the actual weather conditions present on-site.
