in Avoriaz

Do you want to go on holiday to Avoriaz, but there’s no way you’re leaving your loyal companion behind? Good news, Avoriaz gladly welcomes your four-legged friends! To ensure your stay goes smoothly, discover all our tips for enjoying the mountains with your dog in complete peace of mind.

In winter

Avoriaz, a pedestrian-only resort, is perfect for winter walks with your dog. Many hiking trails are accessible directly from the resort, allowing you to share special moments with your companion. However, be sure to follow the designated paths and keep your dog on a leash to ensure everyone’s peace, especially on trails shared with skiers or dog sled teams.

A few tips for winter:

  • Provide paw protection (booties) if the snow is hard or icy.
  • Consider a protective mask to shield your dog’s eyes from sunlight reflections.
  • Always pick up after your dog to maintain the cleanliness of natural spaces.
  • Do not let your dog roam freely in busy areas.

Dogs are not allowed on ski slopes for safety reasons.

In summer

When the snow gives way to lush green pastures, Avoriaz becomes a true playground for you and your dog. The hiking trails offer stunning walks suitable for all levels. Be sure to bring a bowl and water to keep your dog hydrated during the effort, especially on hot days.

A few rules and tips to follow:

  • Keep your dog on a leash to protect wildlife.
  • Respect the protected natural areas where access for dogs may be restricted.
  • Always pick up after your dog to keep the trails clean.
  • Avoid walking in areas where Patoux are present (you can find these areas on our interactive map).

It is possible to take certain lifts with your dog during the summer. This depends on your dog’s size and behavior. The decision is left to the discretion of the lift staff. We recommend that you check with the lift operators before your departure to ensure a smooth and stress-free ride.

Proximity to the « Dog Sledding » Activity

In Avoriaz, dog sledding is available both in winter and summer. Signs indicate the presence of sled dogs, reminding everyone to stay vigilant for everyone’s safety. It is essential to keep your own dog on a tight leash to avoid any incidents, as these animals, although well-trained, can become excited by the surrounding activity. Following these guidelines ensures a harmonious coexistence between hikers and sled dogs, while preserving the tranquility and safety of the resort.

The Presence of Horses in the Resort

In Avoriaz, the presence of horses is an integral part of the resort’s life, both in summer and winter, whether for carriage rides or transportation within the resort. It is essential to adopt a vigilant attitude to avoid any behavior that could frighten the horses or disrupt their journey. Following these guidelines ensures peaceful and safe coexistence, allowing everyone to fully enjoy the tranquil and authentic atmosphere of Avoriaz.

Location of Toutounettes

To make your walks with your dog easier, Toutounettes (dog waste bag dispensers) are installed at several locations around the resort. We encourage you to use them to help maintain the cleanliness of the resort and ensure the well-being of everyone.
