SpikeBall Avoriaz

Spikeball

Come pick up your Spikeball set at the chalet on the playground. A player starts a point by serving the ball onto the Spikeball net so it ricochets up at his opponents. The returning team has up to 3 hits between them (think bump, set, spike) to return the ball back onto the net. The rally continues until a team can't return the ball onto the net within their three touches.

Spikeball Rules

  1. Equipment and Setup:

    • A circular net stretched tight like a trampoline (called a « set »).
    • A Spikeball.
    • Two teams of two players.
  2. Starting the Game:

    • Teams position themselves on opposite sides of the net.
    • A player serves the ball by hitting it onto the net so that it bounces towards the opponents.
    • The opponents must receive the ball with up to three touches (similar to volleyball) before returning it to the net.
  3. Gameplay:

    • The ball must be hit with an open or closed hand.
    • Players can move freely around the net after the serve.
    • Once the ball hits the net, the opposing team has up to three touches to return the ball.
  4. Scoring:

    • A point is scored when the opposing team fails to return the ball onto the net.
    • Faults include:
      • The ball hits the ground.
      • The ball bounces more than once on the net.
      • The ball hits the net and rolls or bounces irregularly.
      • The ball hits the net but bounces off the outer rim or plastic edge.
  5. Winning:

    • The first team to reach 21 points wins the set, with a margin of at least two points.
    • Matches are often played in best of three sets.
  6. Faults and Replays:

    • Service faults: if the ball hits the rim of the net or does not bounce correctly, the serve is redone.
    • Gameplay faults: if a team commits a fault, the opposing team scores a point and takes the serve.

Safety and Fair Play Rules:

  • Always respect other players and play with fair play.
  • Avoid any intentional physical contact with other players.
  • Be aware of your surroundings to avoid collisions.
